The Story

Hunting has always been more than just gathering food, it is a way of connecting to the land, the animals, and our ancestors. Traditionally, hunting taught patience, respect, and awareness: understanding animal habits, reading the seasons, and learning the skills passed down through generations. Every hunt was a lesson in responsibility and balance, showing that taking only what is needed sustains both people and the land.

Today, most of us buy food from the grocery store, often forgetting the work and wisdom behind it. Hunting restores that connection: it reminds us where our food comes from, how the land supports life, and how humans fit into the natural cycle. It is an act of respect, care, and gratitude, linking us to both the earth and the teachings of those who came before us.

The Artist

This vinyl sticker features original artwork by Jessica Chickite, a Ligwilda’xw artist of the We Wai Kai First Nation, whose work reflects deep cultural knowledge, lived experience, and connection to the lands and waters of the Pacific Northwest.
